For all his life Tom Evans has been associated with wood and canvas canoes. He was introduced to them at an early age by his grandfather, worked several summers as a trip guide in the BWCA (Boundary Waters Canoe Area), and continues to use them. His years of experience with the technical aspects of these canoes began by doing repairs and reconstruction work and expanded to include building canoes
